Ducklings & Goslings

Welcome to Foundation. We have two reception classes - Ducklings and Goslings. The teacher of the Duckling Class is Miss Macey. The Gosling Class teacher is Miss Dempster. Other adults within our Foundation team are Mrs Cooke, Mrs Nutton, Miss Barker, Mrs Dal Molin, Mrs Brown and Miss Liddemore. Please speak to any member of our team if you have any questions or concerns. We feel very lucky to be part of your child's first school year, enabling them to begin their learning journey and settle into school life.

We have an amazing indoor room with lots of provision areas that are enhanced with each theme we deliver. Our outdoor area is an exciting learning environment. We use this area daily to engage in a range of learning opportunities, whatever the weather!

We follow the children’s interests, but popular themes are ‘All About Me’, 'Toys', ‘Superheroes and People Who Help Us’, ‘Animals’ and ‘Growing Plants.’ We also enjoy learning and experiencing the different seasons and celebrations through the year, such as Diwali, Chinese New Year, Christmas and Easter.

Both classes currently have their PE day on a Wednesday. Please can your child come in on a Wednesday wearing their PE kit.

Please see our weekly newsletters for further information and important dates.

The highlight of our week this week has been our Groovy Greek drama workshop with Matthew from Movable Feast Productions. The children have learned such an incredible amount about ancient Greek life and their love of the theatre. It was wonderful to see the children really letting go and going for it: every single person got up to act their part - we are really proud of you all. A special mention must go to Enzo though, as he ad-libbed a brilliant epilogue to bring the tale of Perseus to a dramatic end!

It's been  another maths and English heavy week as we continue our revsion sessions, and we have covered a great deal of work on pie charts, and ratio and proportion - keep going team, we're almost there. Light relief is being provided by our writing lessons at the moment, and we have now moved on to designing and beginning to describe the lair of our mythical beast creations.

In PE on Wednesday, the sun was beaming down on us as we practised our running skills as part of our Kestrel Mini Olympics - it actually started to feel like summer (well, for a brief afternoon anyway!).

Year 6s remember that next week is the last week for SATs booster sessions! I have cake and smoothies ready to go!

Have a lovely bank holiday,

Mrs Jarvis

We have started a new unit in English this week - Oliver Twist. The children are enjoying reading the story about Oliver Twist and building on their reading skills. Next week we will be continuing Oliver Twist and thinking about description.

In Maths, we have started time. Time is tricky and we have been chanting how to tell the time using clocks. We have been looking at telling the time to 5 minutes and to the minute. We will be continuing with time for the next couple of weeks.

In history, we have continued looking at the Victorians and created our own timeline with events the children themselves found significant.

Don't forget it is Bank Holiday Monday next week so school will be closed and back to normal on Tuesday. Also next Thursday will be our class photo day.

Have a good Bank Holiday!

The highlight of this week was our Greek workshop. It was highly anticipated and certainly lived up to expectations. The workshop was based around Greek theatre and stories - the whole class were involved in a re-telling of Perseus and Medusa and did an excellent job. I loved how they were all quite shy to begin with but didn't need much encouragement to don outfits and masks and get into character. The three grey women from Perseus and Medusa were verging on oscar worthy!

One of the most exciting things this week though has been the return of playing on the field at lunchtime! Let's hope the nice weather continues so this can keep happening!

In English this week it has become apparent that some of the children are just too nice! In the beast and setting descriptions for their Greek myths, some are finding it too difficult to make these as gruesome as possible - a sign of lovely kids I'd say!

We hope you all have a lovely bank holiday weekend and we'll see you on Tuesday.
